  Summary

So, if the person who placed that ad pays Google 50 cents you then get 25 cents when somebody comes to your web site about dogs and clicks that ad. Okay, a quarter isn't exactly something to retire on. But remember, you REALLY love writing about dogs. Let's say after a few weeks or months you have written 100 different pages on dogs and that an ad on each page gets clicked once a day. That's 100 clicks a day, and if they each average 25 cents, that's $25 a day.

So if you're making $25 a day, that's $750 a month. All for having a web site about something you love anyway (remember, your content web site can be about ANYTHING you love; video games, chocolate, sex (gasp!), anything!

Now, let's say you're making $750 a month and, over time, grow the traffic to your web site by 10 times. Well, then you're making $7,500 a month writing about something you love. Not a bad deal.

Choosing the appropriate topic for your content /advertising based web business

So you've decided to start a web based content site from which you will generate revenue using Google AdSense. You also know where your passions are and what you like to write about. So you're all set to get cracking, right? Maybe not just yet.

When generating revenue from Google AdSense, there is a very important factor to consider: how much each keyword pays per click.

Let's say you're going to get 20 clicks a day on your AdSense ads. Would you rather make 10 cents a click or $1.50 a click? I guess that's what they call a rhetorical question.

When choosing what to write about, be sure to consider how valuable the keywords are for what you are writing about. If you're trying to decide between two or three different things to write about, you might as well right about the higher paying word.

You can see how much keywords go for on the Overture network by clicking the link below. To figure out the bids on a keyword, just search for it and on the results page click the "View Advertisers' Max Bids" that is in the upper right hand corner. Do that, and you'll see how much people are bidding for what words.

Overture Search

Google doesn't have a similar tool but this will give you a general sense of what ads on Google are going for as well.

You can sign up for Google AdSense yourself for free by clicking on the button below. And if your site isn't quite ready yet, just come back when you are!

Let's move on to the retail business model.
